Spring Term 2018
Year 2 have had a busy spring term with lots more learning about our topic of Japan. We enjoyed a great day out at the Oriental Museum, where the children saw lots of interesting artefacts, made japanese scrolls and tried japanese tea.
They really enjoyed being introduced to a samurai and watching a demonstration of his moves. At the end of the day the children showed off their brilliant acting skills when they acted out the story of The Peach Boy.
As part of science week, Year 2 visited the Glass Centre to learn more about materials. They loved designing and making their own glass tiles.
The recent eruption of Mount Shinmoedake in Japan had all of the children fascinated and they’ve produced some lovely pieces of work on volcanoes.
Autumn Term 2017
The children have settled in to their new Year 2 classrooms and have been working very hard during this half term.
They have enjoyed learning about coal mining, which is a huge part of our region’s heritage. They have acquired a great deal of knowledge through stories, role play, photographs and artefacts from the past.
We had a great time on our recent visit to Beamish Museum, even though we had lots to do cleaning up the miner’s cottage. Going down into the mine gave us a real insight into how dark, cold and scary it would have been for children who worked there.
