Tough Start For Farringdon
Farringdon vs Barnes
Our first league game of the season saw us take on local rivals Barnes. Playing a 2-1-2-1 formation Farringdon started well and put the pressure on Barnes from the off. Positive play from Oliver and Dylan saw Farringdon carve out the first real chance of the half but Roman couldn’t latch onto the through ball. Not to be denied, a winning tackle from captain Michael saw us break and clever play again from Dylan and Oliver saw Roman eventually slot home from inside the box. (1-0). Hoping we would push on it was the total opposite and within a minute a loose goal kick and sloppy defensive work saw the Barnes striker nip in and slot home comfortably. (1-1). Straight from kick off we could see Barnes were spurred on and just before half time another mistake and lapse in concentration saw the Barnes attack have a 3 vs 1 opportunity against stand-alone defender Logan, but despite his good defensive work Barnes managed to make the extra players count and put themselves 2-1 up. It was a lot more positive in the second half and we threw everything at their defence but we just couldn’t find a way back into the game and the match finished 2-1.

Farringdon vs Bernard Gilpin
Our second match saw us lock horns with Bernard Gilpin. We already knew how strong Gilpin were with 3 of their players already picked up for academy teams. 3 minutes in one of their star players danced through 3 of our players before slotting past Jack, a wonderful goal where sometimes you have to watch and applaud. A deflated Farringdon couldn’t get going and before the break Gilpin found a second, despite a courageous last ditch sliding tackle from Kian. Half time saw a change in personnel and James and Kieran deployed high and wide to give us some width. We played a lot better second half and created a few half chances but ultimately Roman and Oliver up front didn’t have a lot to work with. The game ebbed and flowed most of the second half but the extra bit of quality Bernard Gilpin had eventually paid off as they killed the game of with a 3rd goal. The boys never gave in and again battling displays from Logan, Dylan and Oliver who were still throwing tackles in come the last minute of the game. We went down 3-0 which in hindsight was a fair reflection of the game, but will only make us stronger going forward.
