Reception – RH

Welcome to our class learning page. We hope you enjoy seeing what we are learning in school.

Our Half-Termly Blog

Reception Class RH

Hello everyone, come and enjoy our learning we have done this half term.

Literacy – Phonics

In literacy we have been learning to say, read and write our phonics sounds.  We are learning to write letters, words and sentences independently.  We use our ‘Fred Fingers’ to spell words and use our ‘Fred Talk’ to read words.

Mathematics

In mathematics we have been learning all about numbers up to 5 exploring their compositions, matching, comparing and saying what is one more or one less.  Finally, we learned about weight and capacity.

Topic

Our topic this half-term has been ‘Where in the world’.

We began by learning about our local area ‘Farringdon’ and the city we live in ‘Sunderland.

We read ‘Handas Suprise’ and tasted exotic fruits.  We compared our country to Africa and looked at similarities and differences.  We learned some African dances and performed this in groups for our class and parents on Showbie.

We learned all about ‘Chinese New Year’ and how they celebrate it.

We read ‘Lost and Found’ and learned about the South Pole and penguins.  We made our own boats and tested them in the water.

Continuous provision

We enjoy choosing time in our different areas.

It has been another fabulous half-term at Farringdon.

We hope you have enjoyed sharing our learning with us.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Reception Class RH

Hello everyone, come and enjoy our learning we have done this half term.

Literacy – Phonics

In literacy we have been learning to say, read and write our phonics sounds.  We now know some ‘special friends’ sounds and can write words and short sentences.

Mathematics

In mathematics we have been learning how to compare numbers and find the smallest number.  We have been using the language of ‘fewer than’ and ‘less than’.  We have now moved on to understanding ‘one less’ than a number.

Topic

During our topic lessons we have been learning about ‘Celebrations’.

We read ‘Kippers birthday’ and made party invitations.

We learned all about ‘Bonfire Night’ and why we celebrate it.  Then we made our own ‘Jackson Pollock’ style bonfire pictures.

We learned all about ‘Diwali’ the festival of lights.  We dressed up, danced and made ‘Rangoli patterns.

Continuous provision

We enjoy choosing time in our different areas.

We hope you have enjoyed sharing our learning with us.
